Lund Environmental Humanities Hub

Introduction and Vision

Lund Environmental Humanities Hub is a network within the Joint Faculties of Humanities and Theology aiming to bring ongoing research, education and collaborations relevant to this field together in order to make our scholars' contributions more visible and function as a platform for strong international collaborations.

We do and will continue to collaborate with a full suite of academic and societal partners, both nationally and also globally. Our work touches on everything from the natural and environmental sciences through to social sciences and humanities, and on into creative arts. At the centre are fundamentally human perspectives on major environmental issues.

New Course: Environmental humanities

The climate issue is the largest challenge of our time. Thanks to scientific advances, we master the art of measuring climate change, yet, we seem to be unable to prevent the rapidly transgressing of planetary boundaries such atmospheric carbon dioxide, biodiversity loss, and ocean acidity.

Två händer som håller en jordglob ovanför trädtoppar.

This new, short, x-course in Environmental humanities draws on a rich humanistic tradition that for millennia has debated questions of humans’ place on earth and responsibility for the environment, other species and fellow human beings. The course will explore how we should orient ourselves in a world where our actions have far-reaching consequences across space and time. What can we learn from history, art, literature, philosophy etc. about the future of the environmental crisis and humans’ role on the planet?
