What you need to know before applying
Here you will find information concerning the calender year, your study plan and credits, Letter of Acceptance and the Learning agreement.
Courses and academic calendar
The academic year is divided into two semesters of approximately 20 weeks each. For exchange students, the autumn semester starts in August and runs to around the middle of January. Spring semester starts in the middle of January and runs to the beginning of June.
Study plan
Your application must include a realistic study plan. This means that you have courses that are evenly divided over the semester. Not all courses have the same duration, some courses last the entire semester, while others are between 3 to 10 weeks long. Please make sure that you list your course selection in order of priority in your application. Exchange students can study a maximum of 37.5 ECTS credits per semester and 60 ECTS credits per year. The SUSA course (short introduction to Swedish language, 3 ECTS credits), is not included.
Autumn semester
- Period 1: end of August – end of October
- Period 2: beginning November – January
Spring semester
- Period 3: January - middle of March
- Period 4: March - beginning of June
Credits
A full workload equals 30 ECTS credits per semester and most courses are 7.5 ECTS. Please consider the study period of the courses in your study plan already when submitting your application. We require you to have alternative courses in your submitted study plan in your application.
Learning Agreement
If you are able to wait, please wait to submit your learning agreement for signatures after you have checked your personal schedule for course overlaps. The schedule is generally available about a month before the semester begins for Spring semesters, and for Autumn semesters it is usually published in June.
If you are coming to Lund through the Erasmus+ exchange programme, you need to create an Online Learning Agreement (OLA) in your home university's exchange application system. This should preferably be done after you have received confirmation of your courses in SoleMove and should reflect your confirmed courses. The course admission process is usually finished around mid-to-late May or November, depending on the semester. After your home university has approved your OLA, it will be reviewed and digitally signed by the responsible contact at Lund University. Therefore, it is important that you refer to the right 'academic responsible contact at receiving institution' (Lund University) in your OLA. Otherwise, it may get rejected at first, and sent back to you for edits.
English language proficiency
It is important that you have sufficient proficiency in the English language to be able to successfully study the courses open to exchange students. While we do not generally require you to submit a formal English language proficiency test, your level of English should be equivalent to IELTS 6.5/TOEFL 90.
Letter of Acceptance
The document is sent out within two weeks after you have submitted your application if you are a student of a university outside of EU. For students from a university within EU, the Letter of Acceptance is sent out within two weeks after the application period deadline (15 April/15 October).
