This course is an introduction to the rapidly growing field of Corpus Linguistics and its application in Modern Greek studies. Corpus Linguistics (CL) is a method to retrieve data to study natural occurring language in different contexts. The course combines theoretical insight relating to relevant research questions, criteria and methods for evaluating, building and annotating corpora with exploratory hands-on language lab sessions using tools that have been developed for searching and organizing the data as well as well methods for corpus building and annotation. The main aim is to familiarize the student with how to master the use of language corpora for different purposes in the analysis of Modern Greek language, literature and history.
