The course provides students with a general overview of Greek literature from the Byzantine period to the present with regard to both change and continuity. The required reading comprises the most important genres of vernacular Byzantine Greek and the authors of different periods that have been important for the development of literature and its influence on present-day Greek literature. Furthermore, the course discusses cultural heritage, gender and ethnicity in relation to the selected require reading.
