Audio narratives are a special form of communication of storytelling with sound (including music) in focus. This course takes an in-depth understanding of audio narratives in various media, such as documentaries and dramas in radio, television, film as well as in digital media, but also news features and other shorter narrative forms are given space. In particular, it focuses on the interface between sound and narrative – in both historical and contemporary perspectives. The course combines intermedial and multimodal perspectives and introduces semiotic, hermeneutic, narratological aspects in combination with cultural theories for the analysis and understanding of these phenomena.
