Discover the fascinating world of film and television and explore how these media have shaped and continue to shape the perception of ourselves and the world around us
The course offers varied insights into a film culture that is so significant to many of us today, from historical depictions and literary adaptations to contemporary issues and cultural contexts. We aim to give you a comprehensive understanding of the role of film and television in creating and reflecting cultural identities, including by exploring institutions that support film production within both national and transnational film cultures, the growing importance of film festivals, the changing forms of film criticism, and not least themes such as migration and ethnicity.
Course structure
The course consists of lectures with interactive seminars, group work and film screenings to create a dynamic and engaging learning environment. The course is given full-time during approximately 20 weeks time and the language of instruction is English.
The course is divided into several parts:
1. Culture and history in film and television
2. Festivals, criticism and society's relationship to film
3. Migration and ethnicity in film
4. Individual project
